A doc is written output from your squad: a brief, research, a checklist, a report. Agents create docs and keep them up to date. All docs are on the Docs screen in the sidebar. The badge on Docs counts docs that are new or changed since you opened them.

Find a doc

1

Open Docs

Select Docs in the sidebar.
2

Search, filter, or sort

Use one or more of these:
  • Type in Search docs. The search matches the title, the short preview, the type, and the agent name. It does not search the full text.
  • Select a folder chip, for example All docs, a folder name, or Unfiled.
  • Select a type chip. Type chips show when the folder has two or more types.
  • Under SORT, select Recently edited, Name (A–Z), or Longest.
3

Open the doc

Select a doc to open it.
The screen shows 24 docs at a time. Select Load more to see more. Pinned docs show first, under PINNED. The search in the top bar also finds docs by title and preview. See Search and keyboard shortcuts. The dashboard has no full-text search for docs. To find a doc by what it says, ask an agent.

Doc types

Agents give each doc a type: document, brief, checklist, protocol, research, deliverable, or note. A doc you create on the Docs screen is a note.

Read-state badges

Squad stores what you have read in your browser. Another browser or device shows its own badges. Archived docs show no badge.

Read and edit a doc

Select a doc to open it. Under the title, a line shows the owner agent, when the doc was last edited, and its word count. A doc with no text says This document is empty. The details column on the right shows: Select Hide details to give the text the full width, and Show details to bring the column back. Your browser remembers this choice. To change a doc yourself:
1

Open the doc

Open the doc.
2

Select Edit

Select Edit.
3

Make your changes

Change the title or the text. The text uses Markdown.
4

Save

Select Save.
If the save fails, Squad keeps your text and shows Couldn’t save. Your text is still here; try again. Squad keeps no version history for docs. A save replaces the text. To have an agent change the doc, select Ask squad to update. The chat opens with Update this doc: typed and the doc attached. Finish the sentence and send it.

Create a doc

1

Start a new doc

On the Docs screen, select + New doc.
2

Add a title

Type the title in Doc title.
3

Create

Select Create.
The new doc opens. Select Edit to write the text.

Organize docs in folders

Folders are one level deep. A folder cannot hold another folder. To create a folder:
  1. Select + New folder.
  2. Type the name in Folder name.
  3. Select Add.
To move a doc to a folder:
  1. Select ⋯ (Document actions) on the doc card or in the doc.
  2. Under MOVE TO FOLDER, select the folder, or Unfiled (no folder).
The Docs screen has no rename or delete action for folders. To rename or delete a folder, ask an agent. An agent can delete only an empty folder.

Pin a doc

  1. Select ⋯ on the doc.
  2. Select Pin to top.
The doc shows under PINNED at the top of the Docs screen. To unpin it, select Unpin. You can also pin a doc to the sidebar. Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and select Pin a doc. After your first pin, the + next to PINNED in the sidebar also works. Sidebar pins follow your account, so they show on every device where you sign in. See Pin things to the sidebar.

Export a doc

  1. Select ⋯ on the doc.
  2. Select Export as Markdown or Export as PDF.

Archive or delete a doc

Delete in the ⋯ menu has no confirm step and no trash. The doc is gone as soon as you select it. To keep a doc out of sight but recoverable, use Archive.
To point an agent at a doc, type # in a chat composer and pick the doc. See Point at missions, docs, and apps. In agent replies and the Squad chat, # followed by the doc title in lowercase with hyphens opens the doc. For example, #weekly-report opens the doc titled “Weekly report”. The link must match the whole title. A number such as #101 never opens a doc.

What agents can do with docs

Agents create, read, search, and update docs, archive and delete them, pin them, and move them between folders. They can also create, rename, and delete folders. An agent can delete only an empty folder.

Get told when a deliverable is ready

When an agent creates a doc of type deliverable, Squad sends you a notification: Deliverable ready: and the doc title. It shows in the bell in the top bar. Email for this event is off by default. To change it, go to Settings > Notifications and find Deliverable ready. See Choose your notifications.

Check that it works

  • A doc you have not opened shows New.
  • After you pin a doc, it shows under PINNED.
  • After you archive a doc, the Archived chip shows a count.

Troubleshooting

  • Search does not find a doc. Cause: the words are only in the body, and the Docs search checks the title, preview, type, and agent name. Fix: filter by folder and type, or ask an agent to find the doc.
  • The New badges are different on another computer. Cause: read state is stored in each browser. Fix: none needed. Open the doc once on that computer.
  • A doc is missing. Cause: it was archived or deleted. Fix: select the Archived chip. A deleted doc cannot be restored.
