Your squad remembers things in two ways:
  • Files that you and your agents write. Some files load at the start of every run. Others are read when the work needs them.
  • Memories: short facts that your agents save while they work. All agents share one set of memories, and agents look them up by meaning.
You manage both on the Memory screen. It opens from the account menu > Memory, from Settings > Memory, or from an agent’s profile > More actions > Notes & personality.

What is on the Memory screen

The left panel lists every file and the memories. On a narrow screen, the panel shows as rows of buttons above the editor. To see an agent’s Notes, Personality, and Identity, click the agent’s name under AGENTS. The three files show under the name. The file names help when you ask an agent to change a file in chat. About you and the squad files are one copy for the whole squad.
Facts about you go in About you. Facts about your business go in the squad files. Facts that one agent must never lose go in its Notes. For anything else, tell an agent “remember that …” in chat.

Edit a file

1

Open Memory

Open the Memory screen.
2

Pick the file

Click the file in the left panel.
3

Edit the text

Edit the text in Write mode. Click Preview to see it formatted.
4

Save

In the bar at the bottom, click Save changes.
The bar shows Saving to the workspace… while it saves, then the editor shows ✓ Saved. The agent reads the new version from its next turn. The workspace computer does not restart. Reset in the bar throws away your unsaved changes. An empty file shows a hint in the editor, for example “No notes yet. Whatever you write here loads into this agent’s every run.” Preview shows Nothing to preview yet. If you switch to another file or agent with unsaved changes, the dashboard asks: “You have unsaved changes to this file. Discard them?”

Have an agent make the change

Click Ask followed by the agent’s name and to update this. A chat with that agent opens. The message box already starts with a request that names the file, for example “Please update your notes file (MEMORY.md in your workspace). Here is what I want changed: ”. Finish the sentence and send it. For About you and the squad files, the chat opens with the lead.

Stay within the load budget

About you, Notes, Personality, and Identity load at the start of every run, so each one has a load budget. The editor shows a load meter with the number of characters and the budget, for example “12,480 / 20,000”. The default budget is 20,000 characters for each file. See Limits and defaults. When a file is over its budget, the agent gets only the first part and the last part of the file. The middle part is skipped at every run. With the default budget, the agent gets the first 14,000 and the last 4,000 characters.
  • The editor shows a message with the exact numbers: “Over the load budget: only the first … and last … characters reach the agent.”
  • Select the skipped part selects the skipped characters in the editor.
  • The meter shows the skipped part in a lighter color.
  • In Preview, the skipped part is marked Skipped at every run: these … characters never reach the agent.
Put the most important lines first, and trim the file until it fits. The squad files (Company, Contacts, Glossary, Squad, Voice) have no load budget and no meter, because agents read them only when the work needs them. File size limits:
  • The editor shows the first 400,000 characters of a very large file, with the message “This file is very large, so the editor shows the first 400,000 characters only.” If you save, the file keeps only what you see.
  • Squad refuses to save a file that is over 800,000 characters.

Know what scheduled runs read

A scheduled run starts with less context than a chat. It loads About you, Personality, and Identity. Depending on the model, it may not load the agent’s Notes, so do not rely on Notes in scheduled work. Put everything that a scheduled run needs into the instructions of the scheduled task, or name the doc that the agent must read. See Schedule recurring work.

Review and correct memories

Click Memories in the left panel. The list is under RECENTLY LEARNED, with the number of memories at the top right, for example “48 memories total”. Each memory shows:
  • the fact
  • a tag: Memory for a fact about your work, or Squad ops for a note about how the squad runs, such as a version or a file name
  • learned by your squad, because memories do not record which agent saved them
  • when it was saved.
Edit and Forget show when you point at a memory. On a narrow screen they always show.
1

Open Memories

Open the Memory screen and click Memories.
2

Correct a fact

To correct a fact, click Edit, change the text, and click Save. Cancel keeps the old text.
3

Delete a fact

To delete one fact, click Forget, then click Really forget?.
Some memories have no Edit button. This happens when one saved item holds several facts. You can still Forget each fact. Agents use the corrected facts from their next run.

Search memories

  1. Type in Search everything your squad remembers….
  2. Click Search or press Enter.
Matching is by meaning, not by spelling. Each result shows the tag Match. Search results are read-only: they have no Edit or Forget button. To change a fact that you found, click Clear and find it in the full list. When nothing matches, the screen shows No matches.

Clear all memories

This deletes every memory your squad has saved, including older ones that the list does not show. You cannot undo it.
  1. On Memories, click Forget all….
  2. In Forget all memories?, click Forget everything.
Your files are not changed: About you, the squad files, and each agent’s Notes, Personality, and Identity stay as they are. Agents start saving new memories from their next run. Only you can clear all memories. Agents can save, search, and forget single memories, but Squad refuses a request from an agent to clear them all.

Seed the facts that matter most

Ask your lead

Check that it works

  • After you save a file, the editor shows ✓ Saved.
  • A corrected fact shows its new text in Memories.
  • After Forget everything, Memories shows No memories yet.

Troubleshooting

The Memory screen shows “Couldn’t read the notes”. Cause: the workspace computer did not answer. Fix: click Try again. If an agent was just created, wait a minute, because a new agent can take a short time to be ready. The Memory screen shows “No agents yet”. Cause: your squad is not set up yet. Fix: finish setup. Each agent’s files show here after the agent exists. An agent ignores a line in its Notes. Cause: the file is over its load budget and the line is in the skipped middle, or the run was a scheduled run, which may not load Notes. Fix: move the line near the top and trim the file. For scheduled runs, put the fact in the task’s instructions. The save fails with “That’s over 800k characters”. Cause: the file is larger than Squad saves. Fix: trim the file, then save again. A memory has no Edit button. Cause: it is part of a saved item that holds several facts, or it is a search result. Fix: click Forget and tell an agent the corrected fact, or clear the search and find the memory in the full list.
