Sometimes a teammate works in its browser on your squad’s computer and reaches a page that needs values only you know, for example a sign-in or your personal details. Instead of handing you the whole screen, the teammate sends the form to you as a card in chat. You fill the fields in the card. Your browser sends the values to your squad’s computer, and the teammate types them into the page. The card stores the shape of the form: the site and the fields. It does not store the values, and the values do not show in the chat. For steps that you must do on the page yourself, such as a CAPTCHA, a passkey, an approval in an authenticator app, a file upload, or a drag-style widget, the teammate still hands you the screen. See Watch or take over a teammate’s computer.

Before you start

  • Only the owner of the squad can fill a form card. Other people in the squad see the card without fields or buttons, with “Your teammate asked for” and the number of values. They see Submitted or Declined after you answer, but not Filled, Expired, or Not filled.
  • A form card shows only in a direct chat with the teammate in the dashboard. It does not show in a group conversation, or in Telegram, Discord, or Slack. When the work started in one of those places, the card starts a new conversation with the teammate in the dashboard.
  • A form card stays open for a limited time. See Limits and defaults.

Fill the form

1

Check the site

Find the card Form to fill in the chat. Next to the title, the card shows the site, for example accounts.example.com. The line at the bottom says which page the values fill: “Fills only the page open at” the site “on your cloud computer.”
2

Fill the fields

Type or paste a value in each field. A field with * after its label is required.
3

Send the values

Select Fill the form. Your teammate can give this button another name. The button shows Sending… while it works.
Check that it works: the card shows Submitted and “Your values reached your cloud computer. Your teammate is filling the page now.” When the teammate has filled the page, the card shows Filled. The teammate then selects the page’s own submit button. The card does not offer the passwords that your browser saved for the dashboard. Copy them from your password manager and paste them. A card can have text, email, password, phone, number, date, and long text fields, a list to pick from, a check box, and choice buttons.

If you cannot fill it

Select I can’t fill this. The teammate gets the message “I can’t fill this form right now. Continue another way, or hand me the computer.” and finds another way. The card shows Declined.

What the card shows after you answer

If the computer got your values but the teammate was not told, the card says “Your values reached your computer.” and shows Tell my teammate. Select it to tell the teammate again. You do not type the values again.

On Squad for Mac (private beta)

Squad for Mac (private beta) shows the same form card, with these differences:
  • The card says “Needs your values” and the site. The button is Fill in the form when the teammate gave it no other name. The line under it says “Goes only to the page at” the site “on your squad’s computer. The chat never sees it.”
  • A check box shows as a switch. A choice of up to 3 short options (16 characters or fewer) shows as buttons, and any other choice shows as a menu. Type a date as YYYY-MM-DD. Press Return in a one-line field to send.
  • When a required field is empty, the card says “Fill in” and the field names “first.”
  • After you answer, the card says Sent, Filled in, You couldn’t fill it, Ran out, Not filled in, or Dismissed.
  • When your squad’s computer has the values but the teammate was not told, the card says Needs one more step, with Tell and the teammate’s name.
  • Other people see the teammate’s name, “asked the squad owner for” the number of values, and “Only the owner can fill this in.” A Viewer sees “Your access is view-only, so the squad owner fills this in.”

What your teammates do

Your teammates are told to:
  • Send a form card when a page needs typed values that only you know.
  • Never ask for a password in a chat message.
  • Use a key that you saved in custom integrations instead of asking for it again.
  • Never put card details in a form card. To pay, a teammate uses a card from your card vault. See Let your teammates pay with your card.
  • Never send you a form for another person’s own sign-in. That person connects their own account instead.
Squad refuses a form card that asks for card details.
