Chase AI covers the three Pro prices in his early-access video. At about 1:40 he says dots is for Pro users only, on the $100, $200, or new $500 plan, and compares that with Grok Bot at $20 and Muse's free tier.

Which ChatGPT plans include dots?

ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200, Pro 500, and ChatGPT Business Premium seats include dots. OpenAI's launch post says "Your first dot is included in your Pro or Business Premium plan at no extra cost."

You create your dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or on desktop web. After setup, you can message it from ChatGPT on mobile, Slack, and Teams. The OpenAI dots guide covers what a dot does.

CNET's 15-minute DevDay recap includes the availability line from the keynote. At about 7:50, OpenAI says dots is available to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise users, and that your dot is included in your plan.

CNET's recap of the DevDay keynote. The dots availability and included-dot announcement starts at about 7:50.

Is dots available on ChatGPT Plus or free?

No, dots is not available on ChatGPT Plus, Go, or the free plan. OpenAI's pricing page lists "Dot, your always-on agent" under Pro only among the individual plans. The cheapest way to get a dot is Pro 100 at $100 a month.

OpenAI has not announced a Plus version. In a Bloomberg interview on launch day, Sam Altman said dots is starting at the top end of the market and that OpenAI will make a mass-market consumer version over time. He gave no date or price.

The $100 entry price drew the most discussion at launch. On the Hacker News launch thread (671 points, 528 comments), many commenters raised the price floor and the missing Plus tier. A top r/OpenAI thread was titled "Barrier to entry with dots is kinda absurd." Both are community reaction, not OpenAI statements.

Do dots count toward my usage limits?

Conversations with your dot do not count toward your ChatGPT usage limits. OpenAI's help center says "Conversations with your dot don't count toward your ChatGPT usage limits."

Work your dot hands off does count. OpenAI says "When you ask your dot to start or manage tasks in Codex or ChatGPT Work, those tasks count toward your usage limits as usual."

A dot that starts many Codex or Work tasks uses the same plan limits you use yourself. If you run out often, the next step up is a higher Pro tier.

What happened to Pro 200 usage?

New Pro 200 subscriptions include a lower usage allowance than Pro 200 offered before, at the same $200 price. OpenAI's help center says "New subscriptions that aren't eligible for grandfathering include a lower usage allowance than previously offered with Pro 200." It adds that "The monthly price remains $200."

How much do extra dots cost?

Extra dots have no price yet, because you cannot buy them at launch. At launch you start with one primary dot. OpenAI says "In the future, you'll be able to add more dots, and scale the output of each dot by either increasing its speed or the total amount of work it can take on per month."

OpenAI has not published a price or a date for extra dots, faster dots, or more monthly work per dot. Specialist dots are a separate preview run as "focused enterprise pilots," also with no published price. The multiple OpenAI dots page covers what one dot per person means in practice.

What does a dot cost on ChatGPT Business?

A dot on ChatGPT Business costs $125 per user per month with a Premium seat, or $100 per user per month billed annually. OpenAI's Premium seats announcement (August 10, 2026) gives both prices.

The smallest Business workspace with one dot is one Premium seat plus one Standard seat. That setup costs $150 a month on monthly billing ($125 + $25), or $120 a month on annual billing ($100 + $20). These totals are a calculation from OpenAI's published seat prices.

↓

Annual billing saves $300 per Premium seat per year (20%)

A Business Premium seat costs $1,500 a year on monthly billing ($125 x 12) and $1,200 a year on annual billing ($100 x 12). Over three years the saving is $900 per seat. Calculated from OpenAI's published prices.

In Slack and Teams workspaces, only a dot's owner can direct it. OpenAI's workspace help article says other people's direct messages or mentions do not start work for that dot. Each person who wants a dot needs their own Premium seat.

How much does a dot cost over three years?

A dot costs $3,600 over three years on Pro 100, the cheapest route. The table pre-calculates 1-year and 3-year totals for every plan that includes a dot, at today's prices.

PlanMonthly1 year3 years
ChatGPT Pro 100$100$1,200$3,600
Business Premium seat, annual billing$100$1,200$3,600
Business Premium seat, monthly billing$125$1,500$4,500
Smallest Business workspace with one dot, annual billing$120$1,440$4,320
Smallest Business workspace with one dot, monthly billing$150$1,800$5,400
ChatGPT Pro 200$200$2,400$7,200
ChatGPT Pro 500$500$6,000$18,000
↓

Pro 100 costs $3,600 less than Pro 200 over three years

Pro 200 costs $100 a month more than Pro 100 ($1,200 a year). Pro 500 costs $300 a month more than Pro 200 ($3,600 a year, or $10,800 over three years). Calculated from OpenAI's published prices.

Pro has no annual billing, so the Pro totals are the plain monthly price times 36. Prices can change, and OpenAI has already changed the Pro 200 allowance once.

What costs are easy to miss?

The plan price is not always the full cost of a dot. Seven costs are easy to miss.

  1. Codex and ChatGPT Work tasks count. Tasks your dot starts in Codex or ChatGPT Work use your plan's usage limits as usual.
  2. The deeper-work allowance is unpublished. OpenAI does not say how much work the included allowance covers.
  3. The first month is extended. Plans include extended limits for the first month after launch.
  4. Credits do not name dots. OpenAI's help center says credits support Codex, ChatGPT Work, and the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint add-ins. Dots are not listed.
  5. Pro is monthly only. Pro has no annual discount. Business seats have one.
  6. Business needs two users. A one-person company on Business pays for a second seat.
  7. New Pro 200 subscriptions include less usage. The price stays $200, and grandfathered subscribers move to the lower allowance after October 29, 2026.

Extra dots are also a future cost. OpenAI plans to sell more dots and more work per dot, and has not priced either one.

Which plan should I pick?

Pick ChatGPT Pro 100 if you want one dot and you do not already pay for ChatGPT. Move up to Pro 200 or Pro 500 only if your dot's Codex and Work tasks keep hitting your limits. Pick a Business Premium seat if your company already runs ChatGPT Business.

Tips to save on OpenAI dots

How does dots pricing compare with Grok Bot, Muse, and Squad?

OpenAI dots costs more to start than Grok Bot and Meta's Muse, and less than a squad platform with its AI plan. Dots starts at $100 a month, Grok Bot at $20, Muse has a free option, and Squad costs $199-299 a month all-in with the ChatGPT plan it recommends.

Meta Muse is not in the chart. Meta's help center lists Muse as free with a usage limit, with a Power plan at $20 a month and a Max plan at $100 a month (read October 13, 2026). The details are in Meta Muse pricing.

How much does Grok Bot cost compared with dots?

Grok Bot starts at $20 a month, $80 less than a dot. xAI's Grok Bot is included with Cursor Pro ($20 a month), SuperGrok ($30), SuperGrok Plus ($100), Cursor Ultra ($200), and Cursor Teams seats ($40 or $120 per user). Plans include weekly usage, and xAI bills additional usage by token cost. Over three years, a dot on Pro 100 costs $2,880 more than Grok Bot on Cursor Pro. The Grok Bot pricing page lists every plan.

How much does Meta Muse cost?

Meta Muse has a free option, and Meta has not published the price of its paid plans. Meta launched Muse on September 8, 2026. Muse runs on Meta's Muse Spark model in the Muse app, on muse.ai, and in WhatsApp.

Why does dots cost more than Grok Bot and Muse?

Dots costs more because OpenAI prices it as a premium product, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. In his launch-day Bloomberg interview, at about 1:55, he says dots is priced higher than other products in the market because of its capability and the compute OpenAI puts into it.

Sam Altman tells Bloomberg that dots starts as a premium product (about 0:40) and is priced higher than competitors because of its capability and compute (about 1:55).

How much does Squad cost compared with dots?

Squad costs more than a dot, at $199 to $299 a month all-in. Squad (formerly MissionControlHQ) runs a squad: a team of AI agents, each with its own job, working together (not just one assistant). Squad costs $99 a month, one plan, plus the AI plan you bring, with no per-task AI charges. Squad recommends ChatGPT at $100 to $200 a month, so a typical setup costs $199 to $299 a month in total.

That recommended ChatGPT range is the same price range as the Pro plans that include a dot. The squad runs on that ChatGPT plan, so its work uses the same plan as your own ChatGPT use. You can add a second ChatGPT account in AI Tokens to give the squad its own capacity.

When is a dot the cheaper choice?

A dot is the cheaper choice when you need one assistant inside ChatGPT. ChatGPT Pro 100 with its included dot costs $100 a month. Squad with the same $100 ChatGPT plan costs $199 a month, which is $99 a month more, or $3,564 more over three years.

Squad costs more because it runs a team. It fits when a business needs several agents, each with its own job, access, model, and inbox, and when you want to see the token usage of every run. The team of AI employees and ChatGPT subscription vs API for agents pages cover that setup.

Frequently asked questions

Plans and prices

How much does OpenAI dots cost? OpenAI dots costs $100 a month at the cheapest. Dots has no standalone price. Your first dot is included with ChatGPT Pro 100 ($100 a month), Pro 200 ($200 a month), Pro 500 ($500 a month), or a ChatGPT Business Premium seat ($125 per user per month, or $100 billed annually). Prices checked on OpenAI's pages on September 30, 2026.

Which ChatGPT plans include a dot? ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200, Pro 500, and ChatGPT Business Premium seats include your first dot at no extra cost. ChatGPT Enterprise, including Edu and Healthcare, can try dots in beta when a workspace admin turns it on. It is off by default.

Is dots available on ChatGPT Plus or the free plan? No. ChatGPT Free, Go, and Plus do not include a dot. OpenAI's pricing page lists Dot, your always-on agent, under Pro only among the individual plans, so the cheapest way to get a dot is Pro 100 at $100 a month.

Usage and limits

Do conversations with my dot count toward my ChatGPT usage limits? No. OpenAI says conversations with your dot don't count toward your ChatGPT usage limits. Tasks your dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work do count toward your usage limits as usual. Plans also include an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch. OpenAI does not publish the size of that allowance.

Did Pro 200 usage change? Yes, for new subscribers. OpenAI's help center says new Pro 200 subscriptions that aren't eligible for grandfathering include a lower usage allowance than Pro 200 previously offered, and the monthly price remains $200. Eligible existing Pro 200 subscribers keep the previous allowance through October 29, 2026, then move to the lower allowance at the same price.

Can I buy extra dots? Not yet. OpenAI says your first dot is included in your Pro or Business Premium plan, and that in the future you'll be able to add more dots and scale each dot's speed or monthly workload. OpenAI has not published a price or a date for extra dots.

Business plans

How much does a dot cost on ChatGPT Business? A dot on ChatGPT Business comes with a Premium seat, which costs $125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month billed annually. Business plans start at 2 users, so the smallest workspace with one dot is one Premium seat plus one Standard seat: $150 a month on monthly billing, or $120 a month on annual billing (a calculation from OpenAI's published seat prices).

Can I pay for ChatGPT Pro annually? No. OpenAI's help center says ChatGPT Pro is billed monthly only, with no annual billing. Annual billing is available for ChatGPT Business seats, where a Premium seat drops from $125 to $100 per user per month.

Comparisons

Is OpenAI dots more expensive than Grok Bot? Yes, at entry level. The cheapest plan with a dot is ChatGPT Pro 100 at $100 a month. The cheapest plan with Grok Bot is Cursor Pro at $20 a month, so a dot costs $80 a month more to start. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Bloomberg that dots is priced higher than other products in the market because of its capability and compute.

Is Squad cheaper than OpenAI dots? No. Squad (formerly MissionControlHQ) costs $99 a month plus the AI plan you bring, and it recommends ChatGPT at $100 to $200 a month, so a typical setup costs $199 to $299 a month. ChatGPT Pro 100 with its included dot costs $100 a month. Squad costs more because it runs a team of AI agents, each with its own job.

Can I use my ChatGPT Pro plan with both a dot and Squad? Yes. Squad connects a ChatGPT plan through Codex device authorization, and its recommended ChatGPT plans cost $100 to $200 a month, the same range as the Pro plans that include a dot. The squad runs on that ChatGPT plan, so its work uses the same plan as your own ChatGPT use. You can add a second ChatGPT account in AI Tokens to give the squad its own capacity.
