Squad for Mac is in private beta.
Open Settings
Settings opens in its own window. Open it in any of these ways:- Press ⌘, or choose Squad > Settings….
- Select the gear at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Choose Settings… in the menu bar panel’s ⋯ (More) menu.
Settings places only on the Mac
Email and in Squad is the same page as Notifications in the web dashboard. This Mac and On this Mac belong to this Mac, not to your squad. This Mac > General, Notifications > On this Mac, and You work while you are signed out. The other pages need you to sign in. When a link opens a page that your role cannot see, the page says so and tells you to ask the squad owner.
For the settings pages that the Mac does not have, see What is different on the Mac.
Connect an app from the Mac
When you connect or reconnect an app in Settings > Apps, or from a card in chat, the sign-in opens in your browser. It connects the app to the squad that is open in Squad for Mac. When you finish, the browser shows a page that says whether the app connected, with Back to Squad, which brings the app to the front where you left it. The same goes for a custom connection that signs in from the Mac. When a teammate asks you in chat to connect an app that is already connected, the card says that the app is already connected, and as which account when Squad knows it. If the teammate needs another account, select Connect another account. The card shows Connected only for an account that was connected after the teammate asked, or through the card itself.General settings for this Mac
These are in Settings > This Mac > General.
If macOS does not allow the login item, a message says “macOS didn’t allow that” and why. For the notch and voice settings, see Use the notch and the menu bar and Delegate, talk, and use Siri.
Notifications on this Mac
These switches are in Settings > Notifications > On this Mac, and they belong to this Mac. They do not change your squad’s email and in-app notifications, which are on the Email and in Squad page beside them. See Choose your notifications.
When notifications are off for Squad in macOS, the page says “Notifications are off for Squad in System Settings, so none of these can reach you.” Select Open System Settings to turn them on.
Hold non-urgent decisions
A question counts as urgent when its task’s priority is urgent or high. Only questions are held. Email items and payments that wait for your approval are never held. The summary is titled with how many decisions wait, and opening it opens Needs you. It comes again each day while a held question is open. Turning the setting off delivers the held questions at once. For the times you can pick and the Friday recap time, see Limits and defaults. What a notification lets you do
Each action that changes something needs your Mac to be unlocked. A question that someone answers elsewhere leaves Notification Center. A mention in the group chat that is open in front of you comes without a notification. With Squad in the notch on, the notch shows new questions, and their notifications go to Notification Center without a banner. While Squad stays quiet in a meeting, notifications still show, without sound.
The Dock badge
The Squad icon in the Dock shows one number: everything that needs you, in this squad and your other squads, plus the conversations with replies that you have not seen. Replies count only while Replies and mentions is on. In conversations with one teammate, only those that you are in (you wrote in them or forked them) count, in this squad and your other squads. Group chats and the Squad chat count every new message. See Other squads. With nothing to count, there is no badge. The menu bar and the notch use the same counts, but they show what needs you and new replies apart. Only the Dock adds them into one number. The badge clears when you sign out. For how many other squads count, see Limits and defaults.Touch ID
With Confirm approvals with Touch ID on, Squad asks for Touch ID or your Mac’s password before it sends:- Your answer to an approval question.
- Your answer to a decision question.
- An email draft that you send with Send now.
Updates
Squad updates itself in the background. The Updates card in This Mac > General has:- Your version, with a status, for example “You’re up to date.” and when Squad last checked, or that a new version is available or downloaded.
- Check for Updates, which checks now. When an update is downloaded, the button is Restart to update.
- Check for updates automatically. On by default.
- Download updates automatically: downloads updates, which install the next time Squad restarts. On by default. It works only while Check for updates automatically is on.
Share usage and crash reports
Share usage and crash reports, at the bottom of This Mac > General, sends “Which parts of Squad get used, and what happened when it crashes or stops responding, so we can fix it. Never what you wrote: no messages, emails or files.” It is on by default. When Squad crashes or stops responding, macOS gives Squad a report the next time it opens. With the switch on, Squad sends the report to the Squad team after you sign in. With the switch off, Squad keeps no report and sends none. Turning it off drops the reports that wait and stops a send that is under way. If Squad was closed while it was not responding, a message the next time it opens with you signed in says “Squad stopped responding last time, sorry about that.” With the switch on, it adds that a report goes to the Squad team, with nothing you wrote. For how many reports Squad keeps, see Limits and defaults.Sign out
