# Use Today

> What each section of Today shows, when it shows, and where its links go.

**Today** is your home screen. It says who is working, what needs you, what your squad did today, and which routines run today. It shows one column, from top to bottom, in the order of this page. Most sections show only when they have something in them.

To open **Today**, select **Today** in the sidebar, or press `H` when you are not typing in a field. On a phone, select **Today** in the bar at the bottom, or the Squad mark at the top. See [Search and keyboard shortcuts](/docs/search).

**Today** has no message box. To give your squad work, chat with a teammate or create a task. See [Give your squad work that it can finish](/docs/delegate).

## Greeting and summary sentence

The top of **Today** says "Good morning", "Good afternoon", or "Good evening", with your first name, and today's date. Under it, one sentence sums up your squad, in this order:

| Part | Examples |
| - | - |
| Who is working | "Mara and Otis are working, and …". With more than 3 teammates at work, it names 3 and counts the others, for example "and 2 others". When nobody works, the sentence starts with what needs you. |
| What needs you | "1 thing needs you, about a minute", "4 things need you, about 4 minutes", or "nothing needs you". Problems that only you can fix are counted apart, for example "and 1 problem needs fixing". So are your own steps in Contacts that are due, for example "and 2 of your steps in Contacts are due". |
| AI limit | "\[provider] is limiting your squad right now.", when an AI provider limits your squad. See [Rate limits and fallback](/docs/agent-stuck#rate-limits-and-fallback). |
| Finished today | "Your squad finished 1 task today.", or the number of tasks. Select the number to open **Tasks**. It shows only after a task finished today. |

The number on **Today** in the sidebar, and at the start of the browser tab's title, counts everything that waits in **Needs you**. See [What the number counts](/docs/tickets#what-the-number-counts).

## Connect the apps your squad works in

While your squad has no connected app, the owner sees this card. **Connect an app** opens the app catalog. **Not now** hides the card for this squad. See [Connect apps](/docs/integrations).

## Needs you

Shows when something waits for you. It lists, in this order:

1. Your AI account is signed out: "\[AI account] is signed out, so your squad can't work." Squad sends this only to the owner and Administrators, so only they see this row. **Reconnect** and the account's name opens **Settings** > **AI**. It goes away when the account works again.
2. Work that did not finish today, one card for each teammate, and one for each app that a teammate must reconnect. For the owner and Administrators. See [Fix work that did not finish](/docs/runs-and-health#fix-work-that-did-not-finish).
3. The first 3 questions and emails that wait for you, urgent first, then newest. A question shows on the same card as in **Needs you**, with its first ask that you can answer. Select the task's title to open the task. An email shows the teammate, how long ago, "Reply ready:" or "Needs your call:" and the subject, with **Review draft** or **Review**, which opens it in **Needs you**. See [Answer a question](/docs/tickets#answer-a-question) and [Review an email that waits for you](/docs/tickets#review-an-email-that-waits-for-you).
4. Tasks that your teammates gave you: **Your teammates gave you a task:** and the title, with **Open it**.
5. Each purchase that waits for your approval: the teammate, its sentence, for example "Otis wants to pay \$23.06 at Example Store.", **Review and approve**, which opens the approval page of your card vault in a new tab, and the time by which to approve. When the request has no link yet, the button is **Review**, which opens **Needs you**. See [Approve a purchase](/docs/payment-cards#approve-a-purchase).
6. The first 3 of your own steps and follow-ups in Contacts that are due today or late, earliest first, with **Done**, **Move the date**, and **Ask** and your chief of staff's name. Select a row to open its deal, or the person for a follow-up. See [Your steps in Needs you and Today](/docs/contacts#your-steps-in-needs-you-and-today).

When more questions and emails wait than **Today** shows, more of your steps are due than it shows, or tasks wait on you with nothing asked, **See all** and the count opens **Needs you**. The count adds up the questions, the emails, the tasks with nothing asked, and your due steps. When only tasks with nothing asked wait, the link says how many tasks wait on you instead, for example "2 tasks waiting on you".

Right after you answer, the answer shows under **Just answered**, with **Undo**. See [Undo an answer](/docs/tickets#undo-an-answer).

## Today so far

Shows when a teammate did something today. It gives one line for each teammate: its latest update today. What you did yourself is left out. For how many teammates show, see [Limits and defaults](/docs/limits-and-defaults#today).

Select a line to open its task. **See all activity** opens **Activity**. See [Follow Activity](/docs/runs-and-health#follow-activity).

## Today's routines

Shows the routines on your squad's computer that are on and run today. A routine that is off or paused does not show. Each row has:

* The time it first runs today, in your browser's time zone. A routine that runs more than once a day on a fixed interval, for example every few minutes or every hour, shows **All day**.
* The routine's name.
* The teammate who runs it, or "Your squad", and how often it runs when that applies, for example "Every minute" or "2 times today".

The routines with a time come first, in time order, and the **All day** ones last. **Today** shows the first few, then a line such as "One more runs today." or "3 more run today." **See all routines** opens **Routines**. While your squad's computer answers, the rows wait instead of guessing. For how many routines show, see [Limits and defaults](/docs/limits-and-defaults#today). See [Open Routines](/docs/scheduled#open-routines).

## What's possible

A row of ready-made jobs that your squad can take on. Select a job to open its page. **See all** opens the full gallery. See [Start from a ready-made job](/docs/delegate#start-from-a-ready-made-job).

## On Squad for Mac (private beta)

**Today** in Squad for Mac (private beta) shows the same greeting, sentence, **Needs you**, and **Today's routines**, with these differences. To open it there, press ⌘1. See [Keyboard shortcuts](/docs/mac/keyboard-shortcuts).

* **The sentence.** The dot before it is dark while someone works. It also says how many tasks wait on you, and how many triggers a teammate suggested. When your steps in Contacts did not load, it says "your steps in Contacts didn't load". When nobody works, it starts with "Nobody is working right now". With more than 3 teammates at work, it names 2 and counts the others, for example "Mara, Otis and 2 others are working". The number of finished tasks does not open **Tasks**.
* **Needs you.** The app has no **Connect the apps your squad works in** card. It adds these cards:

  * A low or full disk on your squad's computer. **Ask** followed by your chief of staff's name and **to free up space** opens a new conversation with your chief of staff, with the request written but not sent. The X (**Set this aside for a day**) sets a low disk aside. A full disk stays until there is room. A Viewer does not see this card.
  * Routines that never run as they are set up. **Fix it** opens **Routines**. For the owner and Administrators.
  * Triggers suggested by a teammate. **Turn it on** turns the trigger on. **Look first** opens it. For the owner and Administrators. See [Triggers](/docs/triggers).
  * The X on a card of work that did not finish sets it aside on this Mac, until something fails again.

The disk card comes right after the signed-out AI card. The routines that cannot run and the suggested triggers come after the work that did not finish, before the questions.

Your due steps in Contacts come right after the questions. If some questions did not load, a line says "Some questions may be missing" and why. If your steps did not load, a line says "Your steps in Contacts didn't load." and why.
* **Counts on the Mac.** The menu bar, the Dock, and the notch also count what needs you in your other squads, their due steps in Contacts included. See [Use the notch and the menu bar](/docs/mac/notch-and-menu-bar) and [The Dock badge](/docs/mac/settings#the-dock-badge).
* **Today so far, or Yesterday.** Each teammate's line ends with "Plus one more update today." or the number of other updates. When nothing happened yet today, the section is called **Yesterday** and shows yesterday's updates. A line with no task opens **Activity** on that update. **See all tasks** opens **Tasks**.
* **Today's routines.** The times are in your Mac's time zone. **Today** asks your squad's computer once each time it opens. The routines that you see follow your role, so an Administrator can see routines that a Collaborator does not.

The app has three sections that the web does not have. For their numbers, see [Limits and defaults](/docs/limits-and-defaults#squad-for-mac).

### Assigned to you

Shows when open tasks are assigned to you, instead of the rows of tasks that your teammates gave you. It lists the most recently updated first, each with its priority, title, and age. Select a task to open it.

### Ideas for your squad

Takes the place of **What's possible**. It suggests work that your squad can take on. It shows during a new squad's first days, and later only when nothing needs you and nobody is working. **See all ideas** opens the full list.

### Share your squad's day

At the end of **Today**, **Share your squad's day** makes an image card of what your squad did today, ready to post. The card shares only numbers and names, never what your squad worked on.

* Choose **Range**: **Today** or **This week**, and **Theme**: **Dark** or **Light**.
* Turn on **Show my business name** to add it to the card.
* Edit the **Caption**, or select **Reset** to go back to the default.
* Select **Post on X**, **Share…**, **Copy image** (⌘C), or **Save…**.

When your squad has not finished anything in the range yet, the card says so and the buttons are off. You can also open the card from the command palette, from **Share your squad's day…** in the menu bar panel's **⋯** (**More**) menu, and from the Friday recap notification. See [Notifications on this Mac](/docs/mac/settings#notifications-on-this-mac).
