# Statuses and what they mean

> Look up each status word, badge, and notification event that Squad shows, and what it means.

This page lists the status words, badges, and events that the dashboard shows. The words are quoted as they appear on screen. Some labels show in capitals because of the page style.

## Missions

### Board columns

The Missions board has four columns. Each mission is in one column, based on its status. The board shows the column names in capitals, for example IN FLIGHT. These docs write them as **Backlog**, **Needs you**, **In flight**, and **Done**.

| Column | Subtitle on the board | Mission status | Label on the card |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------ | --------------------------------- | ------------------ |
| **Backlog** | Created; an agent will pick these up | New, with no agent assigned | None |
| **Needs you** | Paused; waiting on a call from you | Waiting on you | **Waiting on you** |
| **Needs you** | Paused; waiting on a call from you | Blocked | **BLOCKED** tag |
| **In flight** | Missions your squad has picked up | Assigned to an agent, not started | **Assigned** |
| **In flight** | Missions your squad has picked up | In progress | None |
| **In flight** | Missions your squad has picked up | In review | **In review** |
| **Done** | Completed today | Done | A green check |

A new mission goes to **In flight** with the label **Assigned** when you pick an agent for it. With no agent, it goes to **Backlog**. The **Done** subtitle changes to **Recently completed** when older missions are shown.

A mission moves to **Needs you** when an agent opens a ticket on it. When you answer every ask on the ticket, the mission goes back to **In flight** and the agent continues. See [Answer tickets in My Tickets](/docs/tickets).

### Other mission badges

| Badge | Where | Meaning |
| ------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Urgent**, **High**, **Normal**, **Low** | Card and mission page | The priority. New missions are **Normal**. |
| **URGENT**, **HIGH**, **NORMAL**, **LOW** | Rows in the **Archived** and **Trash** views | The priority of the mission. |
| **Stuck for N days · no progress** | Card | The mission is **In flight** and has had no update for more than 2 days. |
| **Ongoing** | Card | The mission runs continuously. It never gets the Stuck badge, and stall detection skips it. |
| Status line with a green dot | Card | The assigned agent is working on this mission now. The line shows what it is doing. |
| **⏸ BLOCKED · NEEDS YOU** | Mission page | The mission is blocked on you. |
| **This mission needs you · N asks waiting** | Mission page | The mission has an open ticket. |

Archived missions and missions in Trash are not on the board. They are in the **Archived** and **Trash** views. See [Track work on the Missions board](/docs/missions).

## Tickets

A ticket is either open or resolved. It is resolved when every ask on it has an answer.

| Label | Where | Meaning |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **N awaiting you** | Ticket card in My Tickets | N asks still need your answer. |
| **✓ All clear** | Ticket card | Every ask has an answer. |
| **aging** | Ticket card | The ticket has waited on you for more than a day. |
| **HIGH** | Ticket card | The ticket is high priority. |
| **TICKET · NEEDS YOU** | Ticket card in chat | The ticket is open. |
| **TICKET · RESOLVED** | Ticket card in chat | The ticket is resolved. |
| **Waiting without a ticket (N)** | My Tickets | Missions that wait on you, but the agent did not say what it needs. |

### Ask types

Each ask on a ticket has a type. The type sets the buttons that you see.

| Type | Buttons | Answer sent to the agent |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Approval** | **Approve**, **Request changes** | **✓ Approved**, or **↩ Changes requested:** and your text |
| **Decision** (yes or no) | **Approve**, **Decline** | **✓ Approved** or **✕ Declined** |
| **Decision** (options) | One button for each option | **✓** and the option |
| **Access** | **Open Custom integrations →**, **Mark granted** | **✓ Access granted** |
| **Action** | **I’ve done this** | **✓ Done** |
| **Input** | **Provide details**, then **Submit** | Your text, or **✓ Input provided** |

An answered ask shows its answer and an **Undo** button. **Undo** opens the ask again and puts the mission back in **Needs you**.

## Agents

### Status on the agent profile

| Status | Meaning |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Working** | The agent has a run in progress. |
| **Needs you** | The agent needs something from you. This shows when the agent reports an error, when one of its missions waits on you or is blocked, or when it has email drafts or escalations for you. |
| **Idle** | The agent is not running and needs nothing from you. |
| **You** | This row is you, the workspace owner. |
| **PAUSED** | You paused the agent. This tag replaces the status. It stays until you click **Resume**, even when the agent answers a chat message or a run that started before the pause finishes. The agent's scheduled tasks stay off until you resume it. |

On a shared public view, visitors see **Waiting** where you see **Needs you**.

The profile also shows a level tag: **Lead** for the lead agent, and **Specialist** for every other agent.

### Banners on the agent profile

| Banner | Meaning |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| **Paused by you** and a reason | You paused the agent. **Resume** starts it again. |
| **Needs attention** and a reason | The agent reported a problem. |

<Warning>
Pause turns off the agent's scheduled tasks only. A paused agent still receives chat messages, @mentions, mission assignments, and inbound email, and it can act on them. See [Add, change, and pause agents](/docs/agents).
</Warning>

### Status line in the sidebar

Under each name in the sidebar, a line of text shows what the agent is doing. The colored dot next to the name is the agent's own color. It does not show status.

| Status line | Meaning |
| ------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| A sentence about the current work | The agent is running and reported what it is doing. |
| **Working…** | The agent is running and has not reported details yet. |
| A reason, such as **Paused by user** | The agent is paused or reported a problem. |
| **N escalations · N drafts** | The agent has email escalations or drafts for you. |
| **Idle · active Nm ago** | The agent is idle and was active in the last 7 days. |
| **Idle** | The agent is idle. |

The header above the list shows **N working**. When the sidebar is collapsed, each agent's tooltip ends in **working** or **idle**.

## Chat

### Your messages

| Label | Meaning |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Sending…** | Squad is delivering your message to the agent. |
| **QUEUED** | The agent is still replying to an earlier message in this thread. Your message waits its turn. **Steer now** hands it to the reply in progress. |
| **STEERING…** | You selected **Steer now**. The reply in progress now covers this message too. |
| **Retry** | The message failed. Click it to send the message again. A failure where no reply came says "No reply arrived". |

### Card headers in chat

Agents post these cards in chat. Each header tells you what the card wants.

| Header | Meaning |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **TICKET · NEEDS YOU** | A ticket is open. Answer it on the card or in My Tickets. |
| **TICKET · RESOLVED** | Every ask on the ticket has an answer. |
| **PAUSED · NEEDS YOU** | The agent waits for you to pick an option. |
| **CREDENTIAL NEEDED** | The agent needs a key or other secret value. |
| **ADD MCP SERVER** | The agent proposes an MCP server to add. |
| **CONNECT** and the app name | The agent asks you to connect an app. |
| **COMPUTER · ACTION NEEDED** | The agent asks you to take over its computer. |
| **+ MISSION CREATED** | The agent created a mission from the conversation. The card shows its priority. |
| **EMAIL** or **EMAIL · SENT** | An email that the agent received, or one that it sent. |

After you act on a card, it shows what happened, for example **✓ saved to the vault**, **✓ added**, or **Answered** and the time, followed by **· sent to the agent**. For how to use each card, see [Chat with your agents](/docs/chat).

### Conversation tabs

With two or more conversations open, a row of agent pictures shows above the chat. Each picture is one conversation. The first nine show their shortcut, such as **⌥1**, and each has an **×** that closes it.

| Mark | Meaning |
| ----------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Highlighted tab | The conversation on screen. |
| Orange dot | The conversation has replies that you have not seen. The hover card says **New replies**. |
| A number on the picture | You have more than one conversation open with this agent. The hover card says **Conversation** and the number. |

Point at a tab, or move to it with the keyboard, to see its hover card. The card shows the agent, when the last message came, the conversation's first message or name, and the last message with who wrote it. For the first nine tabs it also shows the shortcut, such as **Press ⌥1 to open it.**

| **Timeout** | The run took too long, stopped sending events, or was cut off by a restart. |

### Run kinds

| Kind | What started the run |

| **Manual run** | Work you started, such as a message you sent to the agent. |
| **Chat** | A Telegram message, or a wake such as a nudge or an @mention from you or another agent. |

| **Tool call** | A single tool call. |

### Notes on a run

| Note | Meaning |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Interrupted** | A restart of the workspace computer or a newer run cut the run off, or a short AI provider error stopped it and Squad retried it. This is not counted as an error. After a restart, Squad does not run the work again, so check that it finished. |
| **Presumed stopped** | The run stopped sending events and no end signal arrived. If the run reports back, the row corrects itself. This is not counted as an error. |
| **Superseded** | A newer run started on the same conversation before this one reported its end. |
| **Timed out** | The run ran out of time. **Raise the timeout →** opens Agent Configuration. |
| **Run failed** | The run ended with an error. The error text is shown under it. |

For how long a run can stay silent, see [Limits and defaults](/docs/limits-and-defaults#runs).

When a Claude Code account reaches its usage limit during a run, Squad switches to your next Claude Code account. If the run had not done any work yet, Squad runs it once more on the new account. A run that had already started working is not repeated. The next run uses the new account. For the Runs and Health screens, see [See what your agents did: Runs, Health, and Live Feed](/docs/runs-and-health).

### Health screen

| Section | Meaning |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **All clear** | No failed or interrupted runs today, and no provider limits in effect. |
| **PROVIDER STATUS** | An AI provider is rate-limiting your agents, and recent runs failed. Squad does not repeat a run that failed on a rate limit. New runs work again when the provider accepts calls. |
| **NEEDS A LOOK (N)** | Runs that failed today. |
| **ROUTINE INTERRUPTIONS (N)** | Runs marked **Interrupted** today. Check that their work finished. |

## AI accounts

On the AI Tokens screen, each account shows one status word.

| Status word | Meaning |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **LOGIN INVALID** | The provider says the login is no longer valid. Replace the account to reconnect it. |
| **EXPIRED** | The login has expired. Replace the account to reconnect it. |
| **AT LIMIT** | The account used up a limit window. It cannot serve runs until the limit resets. |
| **OUT OF SYNC** | Some agents hold an older copy of this credential. Sync the accounts to update them. |
| **IN USE** | This account serves the next run on this provider. |
| **STANDBY** | The account is healthy and waits in the fallback order. On Claude Code, a standby account takes over when the account in use reaches its usage limit. |
| **CONNECTED** | The account is connected. Squad has no usage data for this provider. |

| **Rate-limited · cooling down** | A recent run on this provider hit a rate limit. |
| **FALLING BACK TO** and an account name | The accounts above cannot serve runs, so runs use that account. |
| **FALLING BACK TO THE NEXT PROVIDER IN MODEL ROUTING** | No account on this provider can serve runs, so runs move to the next model in **Model routing**. |
| **Default model**, **Fallback N** | The provider's place in **Model routing**. |
| A banner that says the provider is signed out on your workspace | Runs that use it fail until you reconnect it. |
